So dense that its canopy shuts out the light, Ilex Forest winds between Route 34 and Azalea Town in southern Johto, appearing locked in perpetual night in Generation II. Crossing it requires Cut, earned by returning a charcoal maker's runaway Farfetch'd. A shrine to the forest's guardian, Celebi, stands within; in Crystal, placing the GS Ball there after Kurt examines it summons a level 30 Celebi. A man at the forest's heart also provides Headbutt, used to shake wild Pokémon out of trees.
