Said to be Johto's largest lake, the Lake of Rage lies north of Mahogany Town at the region's northern limit, supposedly formed when massed Gyarados whipped up a storm and rainwater filled the crater left behind. Team Rocket's radio waves have driven a Shiny Gyarados at its center into a frenzy; after confronting the red Gyarados and receiving a Red Scale, the player meets Lance onshore, who reveals the hidden Rocket base in Mahogany. In HeartGold and SoulSilver, near-constant rain falls until the transmitter is silenced.
