No fewer than four parallel paths cross Route 38 on the way from Ecruteak City out to Route 39 in western Johto. The two northern ones allow two-way travel through heavy grass past Trainers willing to share phone numbers, among them Lass Dana, who occasionally sends Thunder Stones in Crystal. The lower pair are one-directional: a fence-lined middle walkway funnels westbound travelers toward Olivine, while the southernmost strip works as an eastbound-only express lane back to Ecruteak.
