Route 18 forms a straight east-west corridor across southern Kanto between Route 17 and Fuchsia City. Near Fuchsia, a secluded pocket south of the main path holds tall grass favored by wild Flying-type Pokémon and the Trainers who specialize in them. A gate marks the entrance to Cycling Road, requiring a Bicycle before Generation VII, and its second floor hosts an in-game trade in Generations I and III whose details vary by version. Beyond the gate the route narrows to a thin strip of land flanked by water.
