Route 5

21 Pokémon can be caught at Route 5 in Kanto — highlighted on the map below.

Route 5 is a short north-south corridor in northern Kanto between Cerulean City and Saffron City, and the northern mouth of the Underground Path opens here. The route is divided into three vertical strips: two ordinary paths flanking a one-way, grass-filled middle section of ledges reachable only from the Cerulean side. That middle path leads to the Pokémon Day Care, where a lone Pokémon earns a single experience point for every step the player takes; in Generation II the Day Care gives way to a house whose occupant hands out a Cleanse Tag.
